Aurora College Diamond Program

Aurora College, Yellowknife Campus, offers a 22-week diamond cutting and polishing program. It is the only program of its kind in Canada that uses its own equipment and shop facility. In 2004 the program was honoured by the prestigious Yves Landry Foundation in Toronto for “Outstanding Innovation in Education” at the college level.

The program equips students with the theory and practical skills needed to succeed in the diamond polishing industry. Practical training uses state of the art equipment including robotically assisted polishing techniques to provide a world-class learning experience.

Courses offered include: Introduction to diamonds; Workplace essentials; Applied mathematics; Applied diamond crystallography; Introduction to polished diamond grading; and Diamond Cutting and Polishing. The Introduction to polished diamond grading is provided by the Gemological Institute of America.

Two full-time instructors run the Aurora College diamond cutting and polishing course and more than 80 students have graduated from the cutting and polishing program so far.
